A thought from Postgrad Teacher training
The PG Certificate training sessions had their ups and downs, but overall I found it to be quite helpful. Some eclectic thoughts.
One particular tool I found helpful was Daphne Loads' suggestion for charting out the activities for a given lecture. A matrix that links each topic to:
- What the students are doing
- What the lecturer is doing
- What aids/materials are involved
- What the outputs are
I've already used this to plan a tutorial for Term 2 and found it to be an excellent organizing mechanism, and a reminder that, as Daphne put it, a lecture is "a space for students to be active learners."
